Meeting in Georgia

At the invitation of the Catholic Youth Center of Georgia, the OIEC Secretary General visited Georgia from 8 to 12 July, for a working visit and to meet people. The aim was to assess with the leaders of this Center the means to develop an action strategy for youth in Georgia. Georgia is a European country of Caucasus, populated by 4 million inhabitants, between Black Sea and Caspian Sea, halfway between Istanbul and Tehran. In this country, 80% of the population declares itself orthodox, 17% Muslim, and only 1% catholic. Pope Francis went there in 2016. Bishop Giuseppe Pasotto is the Catholic Apostolic Administrator of this country and of Armenia nearby. At the end of this working visit, it was proposed that the Catholic Youth Center of Georgia could represent Georgia in the OIEC. A second visit will take place in six months to review the work undertaken on both sides.
