OIEC IS COMMITTED TO THE GLOBAL COMPACT ON EDUCATION
Never before has there been such need to unite our efforts in a broad educational alliance, to form mature individuals capable of overcoming division and antagonism, and to restore the fabric of relationships for the sake of a more fraternal humanity.
OIEC is an international Catholic organization with the following aims:
- To participate in the Church’s mission to promote a worldwide Catholic-inspired educational project.
- To promote research on the specific contribution of Catholic school to the field of education and on the school’s adaptation to the needs, realities and aspirations of the environment in which it is integrated.
- To promote the creation, alongside schools and educational institutions, of "Educational Communities" in which all partners work together responsibly, for educational and cultural progress, as well as on developing the evangelical spirit, by bringing special attention to the deprived and welcoming, with respect to conscience, all those who put their trust in this school.
- To create and develop links of mutual assistance and active, responsible solidarity amongst members.
- To serve as a network of exchange amongst members for their own information and that of educators, by means of developing communication.
- To collaborate with the bodies of the universal Church, with the Episcopal conferences and other international Catholic education organizations.
- To ensure the representation of Catholic Education in international bodies, particularly those concerned with education.
- To defend and promote the active exercise of freedom of education in accordance with distributive justice, and to foster relations of mutual recognition and association between Catholic education and the countries in which it exists.

Pope Francis has invited us on several occasions to build the Global Educational Compact (GEC). The OIEC, in response to this call, together with the Education Commission of the UISG-USG, and with the support and in coordination with the Congregation for Catholic Education (CEC), has developed a roadmap with 5 concrete actions, which each institution can contextualize and adapt.
The aim of the “PLANET FRATERNITY” project is to create a platform of digital resources for English teachers and their students, allowing them to find effective teaching tools to support the work of teaching the English language. The editorial line of the resources that will be offered on this platform is to disseminate to students of Catholic schools around the world information, ideas, topics for reflection, etc., inspired by the Encyclicals Laudato Si’ and Fratelli Tutti.
The project “I CAN!“ encourages teachers and Catholic schools all over the world to set up projects in their classrooms, where children take the lead and offer solutions to improve their lives, their social and environmental contexts. It is about creating together a project or a story of change, that respond to the challenges of the Encyclical Laudato Si’ and the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
